António Marcolino founded a watchmaking shop in his own name, on Rua de Santo Ildefonso. A man endowed with enormous persistence and a sense of rigor, he managed to stand out in the commerce of the city of Porto, due to the novelties he presented and the brands that at the time were already selected for their reliability and distinctive quality.

Marcolino's watch shop moves to number 130 on Rua de Passos Manuel, in the heart of Porto, illuminating this emblematic street with a special glow. Its facade displays a clock that has become a guide to the exact time. It's a privileged thoroughfare, with great commercial and artistic vibrancy, coinciding with the construction of the Coliseu do Porto, a few meters above.

The Marcolino watchmaker follows the city's commercial boom and finds a new owner, Adriano Magalhães. Aware of the brand's importance in the city, the Marcolino name remains, but Adriano specializes in high-quality watchmaking.

1970

1970

In the 1970s, José Moura, a renowned goldsmith, acquired the company and carried out the first major aesthetic and functional renovation of the store. More modern and comfortable, it adds more luxurious details and greater luminosity.

1980

1980

A new change of ownership occurred with the acquisition of the store by the Neves family. A new store and the introduction of after-sales service made Marcolino a benchmark brand for several generations. The arrival of Swatch in Portugal coincided with a period of cultural effervescence. The brand quickly became a symbol of modernity and style, especially among urban youth. Marcolino was the only store in Porto to offer the most desirable models of the brand and therefore achieved particular notoriety among collectors.

The Neves family acquires an old adjoining stamp shop and transforms it into a new commercial space, which opens in April of that year, in an expansion process imposed by the company's growth rate and market recognition. The futuristic vision of its managers leads the company to expand its product range, targeting it to a top segment, through the representation of prestigious high watch brands such as Vacheron Constantin, IWC, Omega, Piaget, Cartier, Breitling, among others. The technical assistance service is also reinforced at this time by an experienced watchmaker, in order to respond to all the demands of a growing market.

A new and impressive space is born, located a few meters below, on Rua de Santa Catarina. It is a charismatic space, housed in a building classified as architectural heritage, with an imposing facade and Art Nouveau style, which gives Marcolino a renewed dose of charm and sophistication.

InThe brand remains within the Neves family and begins a renewal process focused on the luxury market, with a more universal and sophisticated image, keeping up with market trends and the demands of a more informed and increasingly international consumer. The new flagship store is born, incorporating the Rolex shop-in-shop and major Swiss high-end watch brands, as well as new names in international jewelry.

In the year of celebration of the 90th anniversary, proceed to the restoration of the facade of the building that receives a Marcolino watchmaking. An intervention that accompanied a wave of recovery and rehabilitation of the historic area of ​​Porto and transformed Marcolino and his urban surroundings into a focus of attention and objectives.

Marcolino decides to innovate once again and reformulate its store, at Rua de Santa Catarina 84, in order to continue to welcome its customers with all the charm and comfort they deserve.

Marcolino, one of the most emblematic Portuguese watchmaking and jewelry houses, will celebrate its centenary in 2026 with a vast program of initiatives that honors its history, its people, and its deep connection to the city of Porto, while simultaneously projecting a brand for the next 100 years.
